Start Here
If you just installed Nowledge Mem and want first value fast, start here
Nowledge Mem is easiest to understand through one loop:
- save something that matters
- find it again
- let one real tool use it
If you just installed the app and want first value fast, start here.
What Mem Is
At its simplest, Mem does three things:
- it stores your own decisions, insights, files, and conversations
- it makes them searchable and reusable later
- it lets the tools you connect work from the same memory instead of starting cold
You do not need to understand the whole product before it becomes useful.
The First Loop
Open the App
Follow Installation, launch the app, and finish the first-boot setup.
Save One Real Memory
In the Timeline, write one real thing you want to keep:
- a decision you made
- a useful insight from work
- a personal preference you repeat often
Then press Enter.
Confirm Search Can Find It
Ask the Timeline a direct question such as:
What did I decide about authentication?
If the answer reflects what you just saved, you already have a working loop.
Add One Real Connection
Choose one path that matches the tool you already use most.
Choose One Path
1. I want to use Mem itself first
Start with the app alone:
- Getting Started for the Timeline
- AI Now when you want a personal AI workspace on top of your knowledge
This is the best path if you want to understand the product before wiring external tools.
2. I use ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini on the web
Install the Browser Extension.
Your first success state is simple:
- open the side panel
- connect it to Mem if needed
- capture or distill one conversation
- see that memory or thread appear in Mem
3. I use a coding assistant
Go straight to the dedicated guide for the tool you already use:
If your tool has a dedicated Nowledge integration, use that. Do not start with generic MCP or CLI setup unless the guide tells you to.
4. I have a custom agent or terminal workflow
Only choose this if the paths above do not fit:
- Integrations for reusable packages and MCP
- CLI for
nmem
This is the advanced path, not the default.
Do less on day one
Do not configure MCP, npx skills, CLI, browser capture, and AI Now all at once. Prove one real workflow first, then expand.
Your First Success Checklist
- I saved one memory in the Timeline
- I searched for it and got it back
- I chose one primary path for my real tool
- I saw one memory, thread, or answer that clearly came from my own knowledge
If any of these are still missing, continue with How To Know Mem Is Working.
The shortest useful path
For most new users, the right sequence is: open the app, save one memory, confirm search works, then connect exactly one tool.
Next Steps
- Installation: Install and finish first boot
- Getting Started: Learn the Timeline and first captures
- How To Know Mem Is Working: Verify that Mem is really wired correctly
- Integrations: Choose the right connection path for your tool
