iCode
Connect iCode (Chrys) to Nowledge Mem with MCP, startup context, and handoff skills.
iCode can search and write Mem through MCP. Its prompt hook loads current context, while shared skills guide recall, distillation, and handoff summaries. There is no automatic full-session capture.
Connect iCode
Start with the universal installation guide. Ask your agent to read it and set up Nowledge Mem for iCode.
For manual setup, install iCode
(the Python package is icode-tui), Git, uv, and
the nmem CLI. Configure nmem for the workspace you want
and check nmem doctor.
- In iCode, open
/agents, select Code, and save that profile once. The installer needs a saved profile; it does not create a replacement for the built-in agent. - On macOS or Linux, run:
bash -lc 'tmp="$(mktemp -d)" && git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/nowledge-co/community.git "$tmp/community" && uv run --no-project --with pyyaml python "$tmp/community/nowledge-mem-icode-plugin/scripts/install.py"'On Windows PowerShell, clone into a new directory:
$checkout = Join-Path ([System.IO.Path]::GetTempPath()) ("nowledge-community-" + [guid]::NewGuid().ToString("N"))
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/nowledge-co/community.git $checkout
if ($LASTEXITCODE -ne 0) { throw "Community clone failed; installer not run." }
uv run --no-project --with pyyaml python (Join-Path $checkout "nowledge-mem-icode-plugin/scripts/install.py")
if ($LASTEXITCODE -ne 0) { throw "iCode installer failed; setup is incomplete." }- Restart iCode. Open Code's MCP tab in
/agentsand test thenowledge-memserver. In a new session, ask it to search for a known memory. A successfully loaded Context Bundle appears as a[Nowledge Mem]system reminder; a reminder alone does not verify the connection.
Use --agent <Name> for another saved profile. The installer uses uv to supply
PyYAML without installing it globally. --dry-run previews redacted configuration
and writes nothing.
Choose an App or Cloud workspace
The installer uses the CLI's apiUrl and apiKey. Configure nmem for
your chosen Cloud workspace, or your App's Nowledge Link / Access Anywhere
address, before installing. Remote connections require HTTPS and the matching
API key. A URL override cannot silently reuse another endpoint's key.
The key is stored in the agent profile and installation receipt, never printed.
Keep these files and their *.nmem-bak backups private. Re-run the installer
after changing endpoints or key rotation, even when the URL stays the same,
then restart iCode and test MCP. Its profile contains a copied key, not a live
reference to CLI configuration. The hook inherits CLI
configuration; it does not read the MCP server block.
What the integration does
- Adds an HTTP MCP server to
~/.chrys/agents/Code.yaml, usingexact-v1and slim external-agent schemas. Search, add, update, and Context Bundle tools stay loaded; other tools use iCode's progressive disclosure. - Adds a
user_prompt_submithook under~/.chrys/hooks/. It tries Context Bundle, then Working Memory, within eight seconds total. Backend errors do not block the prompt. - Installs six skills under
~/.agents/skills, keeping existing skills by default. Later prompts remind the agent to search relevant past work and save durable outcomes; they do not automatically perform a search.
On Windows, iCode configuration is under %APPDATA%/chrys.
Use save-handoff for a resumable summary and memory_add for durable facts.
No iCode transcript parser is registered, and this package adds no slash commands.
Update, remove, or troubleshoot
Repeat the install command to update. Edited MCP/hook entries stop an update
unless you explicitly use --force, which keeps backups.
From a community checkout, remove with:
uv run --no-project --with pyyaml python nowledge-mem-icode-plugin/scripts/install.py --removeRemoval deletes unchanged managed assets, restores prior entries/assets, and keeps user-edited or foreign skills. Backups remain. Restart iCode afterwards. Remove first before selecting another profile or skills root.
If context does not appear, run nmem status and nmem context --source-app icode
in the same environment as iCode. Warm up the CLI separately if its initial
download exceeds the hook's budget. NMEM_ICODE_TIMEOUT_SECONDS is capped at
eight seconds; increasing it cannot turn the hook into a long-running download.
NMEM_ICODE_CONTEXT=off disables the hook, and
NMEM_ICODE_RECALL=every|first|off controls recall reminders.
See the connector README for custom configuration paths and development tests.
